The Guide to Careers in Child and Family Policy was developed nearly two decades ago by Lindsay Chase-Lansdale (Northwestern University) and Rachel A. Gordon (University of Illinois at Chicago) to provide validation, insight, and ideas for child and family policy careers.
The site provides examples of the range of settings where child and family policy careers can be pursued, including private, non-profit, academic, and government settings, and the range of ways they can be pursued, including formal academic degree programs as well as experiential learning in internships, fellowships, volunteer positions, or jobs.
The "learn about the field" section of the guide covers a broad range of settings, including government agencies, private sector companies, and a range of non-profit organizations (such as advocacy groups, think tanks, and professional organizations). The "search and browse" sections of the site contain information about university-based child and family policy programs, including degree granting units and research centers. Jobs and fellowships in these types of organizations can also be listed on the site.
Given the ever-changing landscape of opportunities, and our historical focus on opportunities that are available year after year, the site does not include all relevant settings. Additions are welcome. To add your organization, please email cfp@uic.edu.
We hope you find this careers resource useful and welcome comments and feedback (please send feedback to cfp@uic.edu). Please note that a listing in the careers guide does not imply endorsement by the University-Based Child and Family Policy Consortium, by the initial authors of the guide, or by the authors' respective institutions.
